Flying Wild Hog and Jagex have teamed up to develop a new Sci-fi RPG. Jagex has signed a deal with Flying Wild Hog to launch a new multi-format, living game set for 2021. The game will launch on Jagex’s new publishing platform, and there are plans for both open and closed beta phases ahead of release. This will be the first title to be signed to Jagex’s third-party publishing division Jagex Partners.
Jagex plans to release the game sometime in 2021 following open and closed beta periods. We're also being told that despite Jagex being primarily known for PC games, this new title will be available on multiple platforms. Given the release timing, there's a good chance that will include the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
In a brief blog post that accompanied the announcement, Jagex confirmed that whatever this upcoming game is will have planned open and closed betas before the full release. This project is also the first game signed to Jagex's third-party publishing division, Jagex Partners, and will be a "multi-format living game." Though widely known for RuneScape, Jagex has developed and published several other games since RuneScape's initial release. The last project, aside from persistent RuneScape updates, was a card-based version called Chronicle: RuneScape Legends. The game allowed players to create their own adventures using cards and characters from the main RuneScape game. The servers shut down in August 2018.
